During Abbotsford Convent's 'Up Late' for Melbourne Design Week
Saturday 16 May, 7pm · $60 per person

On the night the Convent comes alive after dark for Melbourne Design Week Up Late, come into the Amfora studio and make your own version of this ancient vessel.
Our studio name 'Amfora' comes from the amphora — the historically important vessel used to carry oil and wine across the ancient world.
Originating in the Eastern Mediterranean around 6000 BCE, their design maximised storage efficiency through a narrow neck and a wide body, allowing for stacking and sea transportation.
In honour of these ancient designs, we’re opening the studio for Melbourne Design Week Up Late on Sat 16 May, and you’re invited to come in and make your own amphora.
In one hour, you'll work from a pinch pot into your own interpretation of an amphora — guided from start to finish, no experience needed. It won't be perfect. It will be yours. We'll glaze and fire it for you, and it will be ready to collect from the studio within four to six weeks.
While you work you can enjoy some wine and cheese, and eat like the Romans!
